Logan Tibbetts, a Craven Community College (Craven CC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor student, was awarded the Goodnight Scholarship for his transfer to North Carolina State University (NCSU) and the Coca-Cola Scholarship. This rare honor will allow him to complete a Bachelor Degree in computer engineering with no college debt.
Tibbetts was one of 50 students chosen from a pool of 1,200 applicants to receive the Goodnight Scholarship. The Goodnight Scholarship will provide up to $23,000, renewable annually for four years, to cover expenses for tuition and fees, housing, and meals related to incoming NCSU STEM students. The scholarship prioritizes service to others and empowers students to be transformative leaders.
Tibbetts was also named a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar, and with that title, was awarded a $1,250 scholarship. Selection as a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar was based on scores earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, which received more than 2,200 applications this year. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered nationally by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
“As one of his PTK advisors, I am thrilled for Logan to gain recognition as both a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar and an NCSU Goodnight Scholar,” said Kathryn Amerson, Craven CC PTK Faculty Advisor. “Logan is an exceptional servant leader. He has truly earned these scholarships as well as his place on the All-USA/Coca-Cola Academic Team.”
Alpha Phi Nu (APN) is the official PTK chapter of Craven CC. Students must earn a minimum 3.5 GPA to receive an invitation to membership. The honor society conducts annual leadership and service projects on campus and in the community. APN has earned the distinguished 5-star rating from Phi Theta Kappa International for 14 consecutive years. Tibbetts is the 2023-2024 APN chapter president and has led APN to earn recognition as a 2024 Top 100 Chapter. Tibbetts’ exemplary leadership in PTK is evidence that he is well-deserving of both scholarships. Tibbetts is the first Craven CC student to be awarded both scholarships in the history of the college.
“I am extremely grateful for the people who have supported me during my academic journey,” said Tibbetts. “My time in Scouts BSA, Phi Theta Kappa, Early College EAST, and Craven Community College has provided various experiences and connections that have shaped me for future success. I hope to use this opportunity to focus more on giving back to my community and providing service to others.”
Tibbetts is a student at Early College EAST and is considered a “super senior.” He is graduating both high school and college this May, earning an associate in Engineering alongside his high school diploma.
