NEW BERN — Craven Community College (Craven CC) has signed an articulation agreement with Appalachian State University (ASU) that creates a streamlined transfer pathway for graduates of select Associate in Applied Science (AAS) programs in Health Sciences to earn a Bachelor of Science.
Effective July 1, 2026, the agreement allows eligible Craven graduates to transfer into ASU's Health Sciences program with junior standing, building on the skills and knowledge gained through their associate degree.
"This agreement creates an outstanding opportunity for our graduates to continue their education without losing momentum," said Dr. Alec Newton, Associate Vice President for Instruction at Craven CC. "By providing a clear transfer pathway, we're helping students advance their careers while meeting the growing workforce needs of the healthcare industry."
Students who complete an approved health-related AAS degree at Craven CC and meet ASU's admission requirements will receive a minimum of 30 credit hours of block transfer credit. General education courses will transfer based on course equivalencies.
Eligible Craven Community College programs include:
- Associate Degree Nursing
- Health Information Technology
- Medical Assisting
- Medical Office Administration
- Physical Therapist Assistant
The flexible bachelor's program is designed for working healthcare professionals seeking career advancement while balancing work and personal commitments.
"This partnership expands opportunities for our graduates by making it easier to earn a bachelor's degree," added Dr. Newton. "Students can continue building on the education they receive at Craven while preparing for leadership roles in healthcare."
Students must complete an approved AAS degree with grades of "C-" or better in transferable coursework and meet ASU's admission requirements.
