Craven Community College students Latasha Seymour and Tiffany Timblin were presented with scholarships from the New Bern Woman’s Club (NBWC) on Friday, May 3. The NBWC advocates for local students by easing financial burdens and encouraging women to reach their educational goals.

Latasha Seymour, a 34-year-old single mother, was presented with the 2019 NBWC Memorial Scholarship for $2,250. Funds were collected through the club’s cookbook sales and a $250 donation from former NBWC President Phyllis Hoffman. Seymour works the night shift while attending Craven CC, where she is completing her Associate in Nursing with a current 3.47 GPA. Next semester, she will continue her pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Tiffany Timblin, a 29-year-old full-time student, wife, and mother to a physically disabled special needs child, was presented with the 2019 NBWC Education Department Scholarship for $2,000. This scholarship is given to a deserving Craven CC student for outstanding academic achievement. Despite her domestic commitments, Timblin has achieved a 4.0 GPA and continues to pursue certification in Automotive Systems Technology.

The NBWC is comprised of dedicated women who are committed to making Eastern North Carolina a better place to live and visit. Since 1905, the club has worked hard to serve the community by supporting the arts, providing educational opportunities for local students, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward community understanding. They have been a steadfast supporter of Craven CC students since 2005.
