Public Radio East Antenna Upgrade Underway at Craven CC

Expect Parking Closures July 4-10

Big improvements are coming to Public Radio East! The station is currently upgrading its 522-foot antenna to provide even better service to its listeners. The 89.3 antenna, which sits atop a tall broadcast tower located near the back of Craven Community College’s Barker Lot 9, is getting an upgrade that will enhance signal clarity and coverage across the region. Upon completion, PRE will return to broadcasting at full power--100,000 watts.

The process of upgrading the antenna is no small feat. Technicians must climb the tower—a task that can take up to 45 minutes just to reach the top. Because this work is highly weather dependent and prioritizes the safety of all personnel, Craven CC students and employees should be aware of potential changes on campus.

To ensure a safe work environment, areas of Barker Lot 9 will be closed through July 10.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we support this important upgrade for Public Radio East and the broader community it serves.

This antenna replacement is funded by listener support and Public Radio East is still accepting donations to help cover the costs.
