Program Description
The Automotive Systems Technology curriculum prepares individuals for employment as automotive service technicians. It provides an introduction to a career in the automotive service industry and increases a student’s awareness of the challenges associated with the evolving profession.
Classroom and lab experiences integrate technical and academic course work. Emphasis is placed on theory, servicing, and operation of brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, steering/suspension, automatic transmission/transaxles, engine diagnostics and repair, climate control, and manual drivetrains.
Upon completion of this curriculum, students will have received the knowledge, understanding, and hands-on experience needed to prepare them for the nationally recognized Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exams as well as a full-time position in the automotive service industry.

Transfer Opportunities
While the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree can lead to immediate job placement upon graduation, Craven Community College has a special relationship for transfer to a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) Degree in Industrial Technology with East Carolina University.
