The Scholar of Global Distinction Program provides Craven Community College students with opportunities to develop global knowledge, cultural awareness, and communication skills that are valued by employers and universities. Through a partnership with UNC World View, the Scholars of Global Distinction Program connects Craven students to global learning opportunities and the international resources of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Students who complete the program earn a “Graduated with Global Distinction” notation on their transcript.
Global Experiences
Learning extends beyond the classroom. Students participate in international activities and dialogues that explore global regions, cultures and issues.
Students also complete at least 30 hours of global experience through study abroad or a domestic intercultural experience, providing opportunities to apply their learning while engaging with different cultures and perspectives.
Program Requirements
Students participating in Scholars of Global Distinction broaden their perspectives, engage with diverse cultures, and gain the skills needed for transfer success, leadership, and career advancement in an increasingly interconnected world.
During the program, students will:
- Complete 15 credits (five classes) of globally intensive courses
- Participate in eight approved global learning events, such as cultural programs, guest lectures, workshops, and international discussions
- Engage in 30 hours of a global experience, either through study abroad opportunities or approved domestic intercultural experiences
- Complete a capstone project describing their global learning experience
How to Apply
The Scholars of Global Distinction Program has no application deadline or minimum GPA requirement. Students may apply at any time and are encouraged to apply early to allow sufficient time to complete all program requirements while at the College.
