1970
CCTI drops “County” from its name and becomes Craven Technical Institute (CTI) April 14, 1970.
An agreement with East Carolina University allows students to take college transfer courses through CTI.
1971
In April 1971, employees and CTI students make the physical move from Tryon Palace Drive to Racetrack Road.
1972
The newly accredited CTI completes its first academic year with 382 curriculum students during the fall quarter.
1973
The State Board of Education grants community college status – Craven Community College becomes a reality.
1974
Dean of Industrial Technologies Jerry Prescott chairs a committee to write specifications for the Student Center building (later named Ward Hall) addition.
1975
A physical education project, including tennis courts, is started and the Student Center is completed and dedicated.
1977
The Craven Community College Foundation is formed on April 15, 1977, to enhance Craven CC’s educational mission through community fundraising.
