For anyone who has lived in Craven County for more than a few years, Chuck Tyson is most definitely a recognizable name. While he is primarily known for revolutionizing the real estate business in New Bern and, most recently, serving as the mayor of Trent Woods, there is a depth to Chuck that is not always apparent on the surface.

Born in New Bern in 1949, Chuck has lived here his entire life and has a strong sense of pride for his hometown. He has used that pride to guide the area toward a productive future, yielding countless improvements for the community.

Chuck’s support for local education continued in 2013 when former NC Governor Pat McCrory appointed him to the Craven Community College Board of Trustees. During his three-year stint on the board, Chuck said his role was to set the policy and let staff and administration implement it.

“I enjoyed being on the board,” he said. “I like to challenge the status quo and not take everything at face value. I love to ask questions.”
