It takes a special kind of person to work with children every day. Maria Ward, center manager at the Duffyfield Child Development Center, would be the first to admit it.

The youngest of five children, Maria was born and raised in New Bern. She attended Craven Community College, ECU and the University of Mount Olive and earned her undergraduate in early childhood education. She later received her master’s in higher education from Argosy University.
