NEW BERN – Craven Community College (Craven CC) will host September 11th Tribute events on the New Bern and Havelock campuses this Thursday. This time of remembrance is open to the public and offers an opportunity for all students, staff, and community members to honor the lives lost 23 years ago on 9/11.

The Campus Life department and Student Veterans Association (SVA) will hold a tribute from 9-9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 on the New Bern campus. Attendees are invited to meet in the Congleton Courtyard, located between Ward Hall and Brock Administration.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome from SVA president Logan Previglian. Philly Solano, Veterans Affairs Coordinator and SVA club advisor, will introduce the speaker, Shane Naber from the New Bern Fire Department. Naber is a Navy veteran who served during the events of Sept. 11, 2001. A brief moment of silence will follow, and then a trumpet solo of "Taps" will be played by Bill Green of NCWorks. Attendees will then be given American flags to place at the New Bern campus entrances.

A second event will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on the Havelock campus. The program will include a welcome from Dr. Tanya McGhee, Havelock Campus Dean, as well as a speech from Sylvia King, Executive Director of Student Services in Havelock, recognition of First Responders in attendance, and a moment of silence. Participants will then place flags in the shape of 9/11 on the grass.
