Craven Community College (Craven CC) students Lola Haynes and Laura Russell were presented with scholarships from the New Bern Woman’s Club (NBWC) on May 13. The NBWC advocates for local students by easing financial burdens and encouraging women to reach their educational goals.
Haynes was presented with the 2021 NBWC Education Department Scholarship for $1,000, which is given to a deserving student for outstanding academic achievement. Haynes has a 4.0 GPA and has completed 99 hours of her education that will be applied to her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her goal is to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at East Carolina University and become a registered nurse.
Russell was presented with the 2021 NBWC Memorial Scholarship for $1,000, which is given to a student who has returned to school to improve her life by pursuing a college degree. Russell has completed 136 hours of education, even after taking time away from her studies to help her family rebuild their home after it was destroyed by Hurricane Florence. She is in her last semester of the registered nursing program at Craven CC and is also dual enrolled at East Carolina University in the accelerated nursing program for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her goal is to become a registered nurse.
The Education Department is appreciative for the help of Financial Advisor II Carolyn Ward for her help in collecting and organizing the scholarship applications for these scholarships. The NBWC is delighted to have the opportunity to assist deserving students to achieve their life goals.
The NBWC is comprised of dedicated women who are committed to making Eastern North Carolina a better place to live and visit. Since 1905, the club has worked hard to serve the community by supporting the arts, providing educational opportunities for local students, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward community understanding. They have been a steadfast supporter of Craven CC students since 2005.
