Craven Community College students Kelley Dunleavy and Micah Gastineau were presented with scholarships from the New Bern Woman’s Club (NBWC) on July 2. The NBWC advocates for local students by easing financial burdens and encouraging women to reach their educational goals.
Dunleavy was presented with the 2020 NBWC Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. She is a single parent who is seeking a degree in Medical Office Administration and has a 3.84 GPA. The Memorial Scholarship was created in 2006 to encourage a deserving woman with financial needs who desires to improve her life by returning to school to continue her education.
Gastineau was presented with the 2020 NBWC Education Department Scholarship for $1,000. She is a graduate of Early College EAST and is currently enrolled at Craven CC with a 4.0 GPA. She is seeking an Associate Degree in Nursing and intends to seek employment at CarolinaEast Medical Center or Vidant Medical Center in perioperative care or labor and delivery. The Education Department Scholarship is given to a deserving student for outstanding academic achievement.
The Education Department is appreciative for the help of Financial Advisor II Carolyn Ward for her help in collecting and organizing the scholarship applications for these scholarships. The NBWC is delighted to have the opportunity to assist deserving students to achieve their life goals.
The NBWC is comprised of dedicated women who are committed to making Eastern North Carolina a better place to live and visit. Since 1905, the club has worked hard to serve the community by supporting the arts, providing educational opportunities for local students, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward community understanding. They have been a steadfast supporter of Craven CC students since 2005.
