NEW BERN - Craven Community College (Craven CC) will present Exploration in the Arts – Flamenco Vivo through its Lifetime Learning Center (LLC) with two events in New Bern, Oct. 27 and 28. These events begin at the Harrison Center with an introduction to Flamenco as an artform by Flamenco Vivo, America’s Premier Flamenco company based in New York City, and Durham, NC, followed by a full performance the following afternoon at Orringer Auditorium.
The Craven CC Foundation was awarded a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council to bring the dance company to Craven County for a three-day residency. In collaboration with Atlantic Dance Theatre, this residency will be presenting lectures and demonstrations in the community, as well as demonstrations at local schools. Flamenco Vivo will visit The Epiphany School of Global Studies on Thursday, followed by Oaks Road Academy and Brinson Elementary School on Friday.
The first event will take place Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. This presentation will include a history discussion, brief performance, and reception at The Harrison Center, located at 311 Middle St. in New Bern. This event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
A full performance will follow on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Orringer Auditorium, located on the Craven CC New Bern campus. This full performance illustrates the universal spirit of Flamenco and its unique power to build bridges between people through its diverse influences of Arab, Jewish, Roma, Spanish, African and Latin American cultures.
Tickets for Saturday’s performance are $25 for adults, $15 for students.
