HAVELOCK, N.C. -- Craven Community College will offer adult education classes on its Havelock Campus beginning Jan. 11, 2027, providing a local opportunity for individuals to work toward their GED® or HiSET® high school equivalency credential.

Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Havelock Campus, located at 305 Cunningham Blvd. No tuition will be charged.

The new offering reflects Craven’s commitment to providing accessible education pathways in Havelock, both for individuals taking their first steps toward continuing their education and for those returning to pursue new goals. By bringing adult education classes to the campus, the college is helping more residents begin a path toward further education, career training and employment opportunities.

“Everyone deserves an opportunity to take the next step in their education, whether they’re returning to a goal they put on hold or exploring what’s possible for the first time,” said Sandy Bayliss-Carr, director of College and Career Readiness. “Offering these classes on our Havelock Campus brings that opportunity closer to home.”

Earning a high school equivalency credential can be an important starting point for individuals who want to enroll in college, develop career skills or expand their job options. The evening schedule provides an opportunity to pursue that goal while balancing work, family and other responsibilities.

Craven CC's College and Career Readiness program offers several adult education opportunities across the county, including: High School Equivalency, English as a Second Language, Digital Literacy, Family Literacy and the Transitions Academy for adults with mild intellectual disabilities. An information session on all CCR programs will be offered Dec. 1 from 4-6 p.m. in the STEM Center, located on the Havelock campus.

For more information about the classes and how to get started, visit CravenCC.edu/CCR or call Craven Community College’s College & Career Readiness department at 252-638-7265.
