This course is conducted by the Cape Lookout Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons. It will provide basic boating knowledge education, including both Federal and North Carolina State required education. A traditional classroom education format will be used. Learning is facilitated with use of the America’s Boating Course student manual (included in cost), nautical teaching aids, and supportive PowerPoint (PPT) visual aids. The 16-hour program spans two Saturdays, beginning at 8 am and ending at 4 pm. Instruction gives you the basics you need to enjoy your time on the water safely and includes navigation, nautical charts, digital charting, and chart plotting. This format meets the standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).

Step into the flavors of Old Vienna during this hands-on culinary experience featuring the rich traditions of Hungarian cuisine. Together, participants will prepare three classic dishes: Chicken Paprikash, a comforting braised chicken seasoned with sweet paprika; homemade Spaetzle, tender noodle dumplings; and a decadent Hazelnut Torte filled with a creamy hazelnut filling. After cooking, enjoy the meal together and take home the recipes to recreate these timeless favorites in your own kitchen. Participants should bring an apron.

This course is designed to provide entry-level aircraft structural training. Topics include but are not limited to aircraft terms and nomenclature, types of work accomplished at a repair station, aircraft blueprint reading, types of rivets and other hardware, tool selection, structural units (including fuselage, wing, flight control, etc.), major structural stresses (tension, compression, shear, etc.), aerodynamics, types of aluminum and temper designations, forming and fabricating techniques, rivet layout requirements, use of the structure repair manual, hands on fabrication projects, and the repairing of mock-up units.

Full-time and part-time programs are available to accommodate your schedule and require no prior experience. When you complete the 1,528 clock hour program, you’ll be prepared to take the North Carolina Board of Barbering Examiners exam to qualify as an apprentice. The 1528 Clock hours are completed over 3 to 4 terms/courses. Scholarships are available.

You’ll become familiar with the location and operation of controls while riding on a protected range, and you will learn the basic skills needed to safely operate a motorcycle in traffic. The 16-hour course is taught by nationally certified instructors and is held on weekends. Upon successful completion, you will earn a skills waiver card for the NCDMV. Please note: This course is not accepted as a license waiver by any state Department of Motor Vehicles or as a license to ride a motorcycle on a learner’s permit. Also, the fee is non-refundable. Class size is limited and will operate rain or shine.

Students will learn the basic concepts, skills and techniques of cake decorating. Emphasis is place on icing, fondants borders, design and flowers using piping techniques.
