In this online course, you will gain the basic skills and general knowledge needed to begin a career as a process technician for a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing company. Process technicians work in manufacturing environments and have a wide variety of responsibilities in all stages of the manufacturing process. Tasks may include operating equipment, documenting and analyzing data, monitoring machinery, and improving manufacturing processes. Process technicians also maintain company safety, health, and environmental standards. The ultimate goal is to produce a quality product that meets required standards.
North Carolina's booming biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry will need at least 8,000 new workers by the end of 2026. More than 108 biopharmaceutical manufacturing sites across the state currently employ more than 32,000 people at an average salary of $93,000. Entry-level salaries range from $45K to $70K, depending on the position, education, and experience.

Students who complete this 139-hour BioWork Certificate course will gain the basic skills and general knowledge needed for entry-level process technicians in Bioprocessing, Pharmaceutical, and Chemical Manufacturing. The course includes the following 8 modules: Pharmaceutical Quality & cGMP Working Safely Measuring Process Parameters Chemical Processes in Biomanufacturing Equipment and Utilities Unit Operations and Process Control Facilities and the Manufacturing Environment Biomanufacturing Production. You will complete one unit per week in this course is an 8-week online course. Labs will be done at home with a lab kit to be purchased separately. Labs will be recorded and posted online for reference. An optional hands-on in-person lab may also be scheduled for those who are interested. This course will also cover several aspects of the job search process, including navigating and understanding search engines, both government and civilian resume preparation, and cover letters.
