NEW BERN – Craven Community College (Craven CC) will host a 60th Anniversary Open House on Tuesday, July 1 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Ward Hall on the New Bern campus. Held on the College's official birthday, Open House provides the community with an opportunity to visit the campus and meet college representatives in person to learn about program offerings, admission requirements, tuition assistance, and career training opportunities.
Artifacts from the College's history will be on display, as well as a 1965 Ford Thunderbird, a timeline of milestones from the past six decades, and a time capsule that will include memorabilia from the past year. Free massages, haircuts, and cupcakes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“The response from the community, students, and alumni over the past year has been incredibly supportive, and we’re excited to open our doors on the College’s official birthday,” said Craig Ramey, Executive Director of Community Engagement. “Our theme this past year has been 'Deep Roots, Strong Futures,' and I can’t think of a better way to honor our history while highlighting the opportunities available to future students.”
Craven CC's upcoming Open House will offer a one-stop opportunity to explore everything the college has to offer. In addition to learning about academic programs, attendees can connect with representatives from key departments, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, and more. Craven offers a variety of course formats, including seated, hybrid, and fully online, with flexible start dates and course lengths to fit any schedule.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to discover the wide range of programs we offer,” said Zomar Peter, Associate Vice President for Students. “Whether you’re just getting started or looking to advance your career, our programs are tailored to fit your goals. Our committed staff will be available to answer questions and help you take the next step toward a successful future.”
Craven's program areas will be on display with advisors to help students interested in attending this fall. Among the extensive selection of certificates, diplomas, and degrees in attendance will be:
University Transfer – college transfer to a four-year institution
Career & Technical Programs – practical skills that lead to employment
Health Sciences – healthcare industry preparation
Workforce Development – continuing education, short-term, hands-on training, and resources for immediate employment
Career & College Promise – tuition-free college courses for high school students
Campus Life will be on hand to showcase the vibrant student experience at Craven CC. Potential students will learn how to get involved through clubs, the Student Government Association, and the Hurst Student Ambassador program. These organizations are designed to complement a student's academic journey and provide leadership, service, and networking opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Staff from the Financial Aid office will be available to help individuals understand their eligibility for grants, scholarships, and other assistance programs. Information about the federal work-study program—which allows students to gain valuable work experience through part-time employment on campus—will also be provided.
Open House will also feature representatives from the Community Enrichment Program and College & Career Readiness. These programs offer a wide range of learning opportunities, including English as a Second Language (ESL), adult high school diploma completion, computer literacy, and personal enrichment classes designed to help individuals develop new skills or pursue hobbies.
Additionally, a School Certifying Official will be present to speak with military members, veterans, and their families about available benefits and how to navigate the application process.
Craven CC welcomes individuals of all ages to attend the 60th Anniversary Open House and discover how the college can support academic, career and personal growth. For more information, visit cravencc.edu/openhouse.
