Workforce Development

This course is designed to introduce the primary responsibilities of a central sterile technician. The course includes practical applications of learned concepts and procedures. Topics include preparation, storage, distribution of instruments, supplies and equipment, quality assurance and inventory management. Upon completion, students should be able to apply the principles of sterilization/disinfection in the workplace, as well as the principles of distribution of instruments/supplies/equipment. Each student enrolled in this section is expected to attend all the meeting times and location listed below. The online work may be done anytime during the week, and the number of hours listed indicate how much time a student should anticipate it taking to complete the online assignments each week. Courses with both classroom and clinical components, have additional times listed for the clinical dates, which are located off campus.

This is a fun and interactive beginner Spanish language class which is immersive in nature. You will learn: - how to introduce yourself - how to give and ask for information - how to build sentences (like order food;as for prices, directions and assistance) - how to refer to family and friends - how to tell time, and refer to holidays - how to describe people and places In addition, you will learn how to communicate with Spanish speakers you will meet while traveling or in everyday life. We will be using phrases and functional (everyday) vocabulary, with group practice and varied activities. The class ends with an off-campus activity.

The course is design to teach students about the craft beer brewing industry. Course content may focus on 1) identifying beer flavors and styles and 2) understanding the brewing process and beer ingredients. Student will also gain a base knowledge of beer history and historical styles, retail beer storage and service issues, and beer pairing principles.

This course includes an overview of the types of apparatus equipped with fire pumps, apparatus safety, positioning, basic operations, and the abilities to satisfy the key requirements of NFPA 1002: Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications (2017 edition). This course should be offered consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details. This course covers the fundamentals of training persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential surroundings. Coursework, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, basic wiring practices, understanding safety of electricity. Topics include safety, tools and instrumentation, troubleshooting techniques, electrical power, wiring applications, outlets, switches, circuit breakers and service panels, lighting applications, National Electric Code discussion, and more. Heavy emphasis will be placed on students having plenty of hands-on work, follow safety standards, and develop confidence to know when you can fix something yourself or when to call the professionals.

Narcotic investigations can be the most dangerous type of investigation that a uniform officer might encounter in the performance of his/her duties. The officers attending this class will not only gain a complete awareness of the drugs facing them today, but they will acquire the expertise needed to make quality observations and sound judgments in determining drug use. Officers will be better equipped to identify drug distribution and smuggling not only in roadside situations but in the community that they patrol. The officer safety issues learned in this course will not only benefit the officers attending the course but the members of their community as well. Course fee is waived for all sworn/affiliated NC Law Enforcement Officers.
