Scholarships and funding opportunities are available to most students. Public Safety students (fire, EMS, paramedic, law enforcement) may be eligible for 100% fee waivers after registering for classes. Gain the basic skills and general knowledge needed to begin a career as a Process Technician for a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing company. A process technician operates, monitors, and controls the production process; receives, transports, and stores materials; collects and analyzes materials used in production; inspects and maintains the production equipment and control systems; keeps critical records on the process and product; and maintains company safety, health, and environmental standards. This course will also cover all aspects of the job search process, resume preparation, and interviewing practice. Lecture and assignments will be in-person and labs will be hands-on one night per week. Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent. The National Career Readiness Certificate completion is encouraged. 136 hours.

This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a certified EKG (ECG) and Technician/Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 and five lead monitors and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function.

The CDL Passenger Endorsement course provides students with training to inspect and operate any CMVs, and to assume driving responsibilities on the road. Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspections, defensive driving, range maneuvers, motor carrier safety regulations, trip planning, cargo planning, size/weight laws, general maintenance procedures, and hours of service and accident prevention. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires specialized training in the areas of driver qualification, hours of service, driver wellness, and whistleblower protection for entry-level drivers who are subject to the commercial driver’s license requirements (49 CFR Part 380). Upon completion of this course the student is prepared to pass the NC DMV CDL Passenger Endorsement skills exams and prepared to apply for employment with a respected motor carrier as an entry level driver.
