Workforce Development

This course is designed to instruct the law enforcement officer in the basics of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), with a focus on cardiac, breathing, and other life-threatening medical emergencies as well as awareness the hazards of blood borne pathogens. Upon successful completion, the student may qualify to receive certification through a certifying agency. Course fee is waived for all sworn/affiliated NC Law Enforcement Officers.

The course is design to teach students about the craft beer brewing industry. Course content may focus on 1) identifying beer flavors and styles and 2) understanding the brewing process and beer ingredients. Student will also gain a base knowledge of beer history and historical styles, retail beer storage and service issues, and beer pairing principles.

This course is designed to introduce the student to the concept of interdiction in different environments and roadways and give them the tools necessary to be successful. This class is taught by an active officer currently assigned to an interdiction task force. Topics taught include (1) Introduction to the crime problem, (2) Change in driving behavior, (3) 4th amendment and case law, (4) Roadside interview, (5) Currency seizures, (6) Conducting the proper vehicle search. Course fee is waived for all sworn/affiliated NC Law Enforcement Officers.

This course includes an overview of the types of apparatus equipped with fire pumps, apparatus safety, positioning, basic operations, and the abilities to satisfy the key requirements of NFPA 1002: Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications (2017 edition). This course should be offered consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details. Effective date July 1, 2020/NFPA 1002 Standard, 2017 edition.

This course covers the fundamentals of heating and air condition , focusing heavy on electric heat pumps. The course is designed for the homeowner or handyman. Topics include safety, tools and instrumentation, troubleshooting techniques, electrical power, and control systems. air conditioning equipment and components, including condensers, evaporators, compressors, metering devices, refrigerants, and electrical and mechanical circuits. Heavy emphasis will be placed on Students will have opportunities to hands-on with equipment, follow safety standards and protocols, and develop confidence to know when you can fix something yourself or when to call the professionals.
