This course must follow the guidelines established by the NC Office of EMS. The Office of EMS must approve courses that include portions delivered via distance education. The curriculum for the AEMT Refresher Educational program shall be the 2009, or most current release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Education Standards. The AEMT Refresher Educational program must be conducted by an approved Advanced Educational Institution as defined in the rules of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. The lead instructor for the AEMT Refresher Educational program must be a NC credentialed Level II EMS Instructor at the AEMT or Paramedic level as defined in the rules of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. This 5-day/45-hour course is designed for law enforcement officers involved in the tracking and monitoring of suspects through urban, suburban, or rural conditions for the purpose of documenting activities and potentially interdicting upon these actions. This training will provide narcotics and criminal investigators the knowledge of proper planning methods and techniques for conducting a successful foot, vehicle and stationary surveillance operation in an urban setting. Participants will receive instruction on: Operational Planning, Concealment Techniques, Prior Intelligence of Target Assessment, Safety Issues, Infiltration and Exfiltration Techniques, Equipment Needs, Personnel and Surveillance Strategies. This is a hands-on training exercise conducted under arduous conditions. Participants should possess a working knowledge of video equipment and be prepared to use it during training. This course is 90% field work. You will need a covert or unmarked vehicle and one video camera for every three (3) people. Please do not intend on using marked vehicles in this class. Course fee is waived for sworn/affiliated NC Law Enforcement Officers.
